PAINTING 'A FRENCH VIEW' VIDEO TUTORIAL

Learn from the comfort of your own home & at your own pace with this full length narrated video which you can download & revisit at any time.

In this tutorial you will learn how to paint a believable landscape as well as learning how to create form in trees and make an all green scene a little more interesting.

I work at a slow pace taking you through my painting process step by step. I include a link to the original free reference photo that I used ( copyright free) & a copy of my own initial outline sketch which you can download and trace if you wish. I give you an overview of the colours & materials I used in the painting.

This tutorial is a complete & comprehensive guide where I explain about the theory behind what I am doing, why I have chosen certain colours or used certain strokes etc – in addition to learning how to paint this scene there are many basic principles & techniques that I explain that you can apply to your own paintings.

My own finished painting size was 6”x 8” however you can naturally create your own sketch to create a smaller or larger painting if you wish.

I also offer this tutorial with a optional reduced price video critique service for this painting, if you would like some advice or tips on how you might improve.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE TUTORIAL

A reasonable mixed selection of soft pastels – please see 'Colours' Image to see the types of colours I used.

Pastel Paper – I suggest using a sanded paper if possible, such as Fisher 400, Lux Archival or Uart 400 grit – If you can't get a sanded paper try to get a paper that will take a lot of layers such as a Pastelmat

A Pastel pencil for the sketch ( you can use charcoal or a normal pencil if you don't have a pastel pencil)

A board of some form to tape your paper to – ideally with pastels it is good to have them upright so that any loose pastels can drop down.

A couple of small paintbrushes (If using sanded paper do not use your expensive bushes as the paper will wear them down, kiddies paintbrushes will be fine.

Something to blend with such as a piece of pipe foam insulation or make up sponge.

Thank you & Happy Painting!
